Rangitikei is fortunate to have its very
own Maori entertainment group, an award
winning choir, an enthusiastic Musicians
Club, and various other theatrical venues.
Each town has its own special event, including
the world famous gumboot throwing contest
in Taihape, farm
dog barking competitions in Hunterville,
Agricultural and Pastoral shows, market
days and much more. A visit to the Rangitikei
will give you a taste of the rural culture
at the heart of New Zealand.
Quaint art and craft trails take you from
one end of the district to the other, taking
in outlets selling a range of items from
antiques and collectibles through to locally
made natural wool products and Maori handicrafts.
The district has a number of historic homes.
Some can be viewed as you visit the magnificent
gardens that surround them, or you can join
a guided tour to learn more about our architectural
heritage.
There are many museums in the Rangitikei,
ranging from the impressive collections
of the Air Force Museum at Ohakea and the
Army Museum in Waiouru to the smaller, specialised
memorabilia contained in the Taihape,
Hunterville and
Marton Museums.
